About TheUnscrambleWords
What This Site Does
TheUnscrambleWords.com is a free word unscrambler and anagram solver. You enter a set of letters, hit Unscramble, and the tool instantly finds every valid word hidden inside them — grouped by length and shown with Scrabble point values. Use ? for blank tiles.
The tool also supports advanced filters: start or end your word with specific letters and require certain letters to appear. It uses a single open-source English word list rather than copyrighted official tournament word lists.
Who It Helps
- Scrabble players — find the highest-scoring play from your rack, spot bingo opportunities, and learn the short words (QI, ZA, XI, OX) that turn high-value tiles into big scores.
- Wordle players — confirm which five-letter words fit your known letters and process of elimination.
- Words With Friends players — explore possible plays quickly, then confirm unfamiliar words inside the game.
- Wordscapes and word puzzle players — unscramble tiles quickly and move on.
- Students and word enthusiasts — discover words you didn't know existed inside familiar letter sets.
Why It Exists
Word game players need a fast, clean, no-friction tool. Most word unscramblers are cluttered with ads, slow to load, or require you to navigate multiple pages to get a result. This site loads fast, works on any device, and gives you answers immediately — no accounts, no sign-ups, no popups.
How the Tool Works
The entire word engine runs in your browser using JavaScript. When you hit Unscramble, your letters never leave your device — the computation happens locally against a word list bundled with the page. This means it works offline once the page has loaded, and your searches are completely private.
The bundled list contains 274,000+ entries from the MIT-licensed an-array-of-english-words package, which is derived from the Letterpress word list. Results are sorted by word length and Scrabble score. Because official game word lists can differ, this tool is best used as a fast discovery aid rather than a tournament authority.
Word List Attribution
Word data is based on the MIT-licensed an-array-of-english-words project. License attribution: MIT License, Copyright (c) 2014 Zeke Sikelianos. The package describes its source as a list of about 275,000 English words derived from the Letterpress word list.
